"New edition," good to very good in full contemporary leather. Inscriptions from 1963 on front endpapers of both volumes, front board of volume 1 is detached, spines on both volumes have lost almost all gilt lettering and decorations. Volume 1 has an engraved frontispiece, 12 engraved plates each with 4 portraits, and a folding map facing the introduction. Internal pages are in nice shape, very little foxing, paper supple and clean. Volume 2 is all text, with an unpaginated index at the rear.
